Jed is a Percheron draft horse from Fieldstone Farm Therapeutic Riding Center.

The photograph was taken as Jed lay in his stall. Early morning light poured through a small “cut-out” window just outside the picture, slightly above and to the right of his head. The space was far too tight for a tripod, so I lay directly on the floor of the stall and set the camera on his flank.

He has become as much a part of the Chagrin Valley landscape as the bucolic scenes lining Chagrin River Road. Jed also has been a central figure in solo shows at the Butler Institute, the Holden Arboretum, and the Cleveland Botanical Garden.
