Westbound Migration
Late October, rafts of Canada geese assemble in regimented rows at the east end of Schweitzer Marsh, shortly before sunrise. Wave after sonorous wave they explode, peddling frantically confident a liftoff is imminent. And, indeed, they gain altitude, shedding water in their ascent.
This morning, the first wave circled, resuming some unknown destination west across the tracks below.
